#1 The Most Important Thing

You can go to, click on People, and then type in Larkin Avenue Baptist Church (for Church) to read personal stories of what God  has done, and is doing, in members of Larkin Avenue Baptist Church
This page is entitled The Most Important Thing because it is about the most important relationship a person can have, the only relationship that really continues throughout eternity. It is #1 because it about a person's relationship with God. Before you may be tempted to go to another page on our web site, please - at least - continue to read the page.

Your #1 Lover
There is no one who loves you more than God, because no one really know how. Even people with the purest of motives are not perfect and as a result what they do is not always for the right reason. God loves you with a love that is truly dedicated to you, like no one else has ever loved you. There is a man in the Bible who must have been in total amazement as he heard Jesus describing the love of God like this "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that  whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."  (John 3:16) God is your #1 Lover because no one has ever even been able to love you like He does.

Your #1 Need
The greatest need in your life, while it may be important, is not how to pay a bill, or knowing what decision to make. Again, these are important issues, but they are not needs that you will carry into eternity. Your most important need is to be acceptable to a God Who is holy and pure. While He loves us, it doesn't mean that we can spend eternity with Him unless something is done about the wrong things we have done or the right things we have failed to do. I've never met any one who claims to be perfect which is consistent with the Bible when the Apostle Paul wrote "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). The glory of God is simply another way of expressing the idea that we cannot be with God throughout eternity in this state of sinfulness.

Your #1 Option
Really, you have no other option. I know people get upset when they hear that people (such as us) believe that a person cannot spend eternity without a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, but if there were other ways for a person to spend eternity with God, then why would a perfect Jesus die a violent death for people who hated Him? To experience the love of God through Jesus and to have Him fulfill your greatest need is an experience that is so difficult to express in words. It is simply overwhelming and no one can truly begin to imagine what it is like until they have actually committed their life to Jesus. "If you use your mouth to say, 'Jesus is Lord' and if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from death, then you will be saved. We believe with our hearts, and so we are made right with God. And we use our mouths to say that we believe, and so we are saved." (Romans 10:9-10)

Your #1 Response
You can say no to God. Actually, Jesus told people that by not saying yes to God and receiving eternal life as His gift, people are saying no "  Whoever believes in him (Jesus, God's Son) is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son." (John 3:18). That places a tremendous responsibility on you to make your decision to receive God's gift of eternal life today. How do you accept God's gift of eternal life? You ask Him for it. People have prayed prayers like this "Dear God, I know that you have loved me for all my life and that I am important to you. You sent Jesus to die for me and pay the penalty for my sins. I have not always done what You've wanted me to do and I surely have done things You have not wanted me to do. I believe that Jesus died for my sins and that You raised Him from the dead so I could spend eternity with You. I want Him to come into my life and be my Savior and Lord. I commit myself to following Jesus the best I can, with His help. Amen."

If  that prayer expresses the feelings in your heart, you can pray that prayer and God will answer. The Bible says, "As the Scripture says, 'Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.' For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'" (Romans 10:11-13)

We realize this is the most important decision - it's the #1 decision - you'll ever make. Please feel free to email our pastor at or call 1-800-JESUS2000 for more help on how to make this #1 decision.
